Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review

Most of the time Lego games are created as parodies to specific cult series and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is no exceptions.

Most of the time Lego games are created as parodies to specific cult series and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is no exceptions. But since we already had Lego games that covered all the previous titles in the series, is this game delivering something new?

Gameplay

Right from the start Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a very familiar experience. You can play with a friend if you want and you will follow the scenes from the movie with great attention. The game doesn’t stay that much outside of the movie, but it does allow you to experience some of the events precursor to the movie, with Han Solo and Leia among others. Even though most of the time the game will try to follow the movie’s story, it will indeed add a hefty dose of humor, which is amazing for all Lego lovers.

Another thing to like here is the fact that the instructions are easy to follow and the game can be played by kids as well. Plus, the character design is simple and funny, especially BB-8 which looks amazing all while still having a stunning look.

It’s important to note that the controls are very fluid. You won’t have issues playing with the controller but even if you play with mouse and keyboard the game works flawlessly. You will enjoy the charm and goofiness of the Lego series, and the huge amount of unlockables will definitely require you to peel your eyes the best way you can.

The game is long, you can get around 15-20 hours out of it or even more if you want to unlock everything. It can be a little hard however to play in coop since the split screen tends to be very confusing especially if the characters are in different locations. They have a stabilization feature but that’s not default and you have to do it from the settings menu.

The difficulty is minimal, so the game is a lot more focused on fun instead of delivering challenges. That’s not necessarily a bad thing since the title is focused mostly on kids but as a whole it does deliver a very good value. The idea of exploring these adventures with Lego characters is very good and the execution is professional, which is a major plus here.

Graphics and sounds

The soundtrack does borrow a few elements from the movies which is a plus. You will also like the great graphics and attention to detail offered here. Everything from the AT-ATs to the droids and the environment is carefully recreated so you really feel like in a Star Wars adventure.

Conclusion

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a good game. It takes the best portions of the movie, adds in a hefty dose of humor and it allows you to have fun as you explore the great controls. It is definitely well worth your time if you are a movie lover, but you will also enjoy it if you like LEGO games. Well worth your time for sure.
