Excubitor Review: A tower defense game with a twist

Excubitor is an interesting blend of two genres, tower defense and bullet hell! Basically, in this game you have to do all you can in order to build and protect your base with the help of your towers and bullet hell action.

Excubitor is an interesting blend of two genres, tower defense and bullet hell! Basically, in this game you have to do all you can in order to build and protect your base with the help of your towers and bullet hell action.

Excubitor does a very good job at combining the two genres and honestly while we had an eye on the game well before its release, the sheer sight of this project made it seem too ambitious. Thankfully, Excubitor turned out to be good and one of the things you would like about it is the fact that the gameplay is very tight.

The combat is satisfying because you have to focus on both tower defense and attacking the enemies. You will always build or kill something which does bring amazing opportunities that you certainly do not want to miss. It’s one of the game mechanics that works seamlessly and one that does deliver an immense value right from the start. Excubitor does a very good job in delivering a unique attention to detail and it also manages to bring some cool boss battles.

The game does a great job when it comes to offering interesting bosses that differ from one another and you actually need to create strategies to beat them. The functions you get here are very fun and exciting, which is definitely a thing of beauty if you enjoy this type of experience.

You can find quite a lot of variety in the game, they do bring you quite a large number of possibilities and upgrades as well as many other options are just a nice experience to begin with. I like the replay value here and since the game is insanely challenging, you will certainly have a fun time with it. They have lots of content but there is room for an expansion so hopefully that comes sooner rather than later.

The game is indeed challenging, as I did find Excubitor to deliver plenty of challenge while playing. It’s great because who wants to go through the same experiences over and over without clear results.

The only downsides for Excubitor are the less than impressive UI, the sound design which could have been better and the fact that the game isn’t exactly newcomer friendly. It’s interesting to see how everything manages to add up here and I do feel that the game does a very good job at delivering a great and fun experience that you will enjoy.

It’s rare to find a game that blends 2 different genres so well. Plus, the attention to detail here is very good and there’s a whole lot of content to go through. There’s always room for improvement but the mishaps aren’t that problematic and they can easily be excused! We would recommend Excubitor to every gamer that likes tower defense games because this really is a thing of beauty. Sure, it might not be beginner friendly but it’s exciting, refreshing and just a ton of fun!
